Battery operated Christmas Lights have improved greatly in recent years. With the advent of LED’s, which use less than a tenth of the electricity compared with traditional filament bulbs, we now have sets which last for weeks at a time and have built in timers to turn them on and off again. They come with weatherproof battery boxes which usually take 2- 3 AA batteries (larger sets usually use higher capacity C or D size batteries). This makes using extension leads with waterproof boxes / sockets or running wires out of windows etc redundant! I’ve been using the battery ones at home now for a few years now. It makes it sooo much simpler!
